  • Minimum 20 years of age
  • Minimum three (3) years EMS experience
  • Insurable NYS Class D (or higher) driver’s license

Education and experience

  • New York State Paramedic certification
    • Monroe-Livingston REMAC clearance preferred
  • CPR, NIMS 100, 200, 700 required
    • ACLS, ITLS (or equivalent), PALS preferred

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of NYS DOH EMS protocols and regional Standards of Care
  • Familiarity with NYS Article 30, Part 18, Part 800, DOH policy statements
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Experience with emsCharts software preferred
  • Experience with “combination” EMS agencies preferred
  • Must be able to complete the physical requirements of an EMT/AEMT pursuant to NYS DOH EMS policy statements and agency policy

Candidates shall achieve the following status following appointment

  • Qualified provider & driver within 45 days of appointment
  • CEVO or EVOC completion within 90 days of appointment
  • If not currently cleared in Monroe-Livingston system, candidate must be eligible for REMAC approval and must clear within 45 days of appointment


The Paramedic reports directly to the Chief Paramedic, serving in a combination EMS agency setting. The primary responsibility involves responding to emergency calls in a prompt, professional manner and providing high-quality patient care.

Other essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing equipment & vehicle checks at start of shift to assure response readiness in accordance with department, regional, and/or NYS DOH regulations
  • Adhering to all agency, regional, and state standards for emergency response, patient care and transport, and completion of required documentation
  • Performing any assigned duties, tasks, and/or house chores for current shift
  • Reporting unusual occurrences, equipment malfunctions, supply shortages, etc. in writing prior to the end of current shift
  • Assure security of controlled substances and other medications while reporting any suspected or actual diversion or theft of controlled substances to Chief Paramedic immediately
  • Assuring personal response readiness throughout duration of shift, conducting oneself in a professional manner at all times, and reporting all interagency, interpersonal, or other concerns as soon as practical but prior to the end of current shift
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all patient, staff, and agency matters in accordance with established HIPAA regulations
  • Maintaining familiarity with agency policies, procedures, and operating guidelines
  • Attending meetings as required
  • Maintaining CME responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned
